TileWhirl

Frequently asked questions

Which tray should I start with?

The square tray is the easiest to read, because it works like pixel art in rows and columns. The triangle and star trays are a step up, and the hex tray, with its many layouts, is the most challenging.

Are the patterns really free?

Yes. Every pattern on this site is free to view, build and print for your own use.

How do I know which tiles I need?

Each pattern page lists the number of tiles of each color, and how many of that color come in the box. Every pattern on this site can be built from the tiles in one box.

What do Easy, Medium and Hard mean?

They depend on how often the color changes from one tile to the next and how many colors are used. A pattern with big blocks of color is easy. One where nearly every tile differs from its neighbors is hard.

Can I print the patterns?

Yes. Press Print on any pattern page. It prints the picture and the tile counts on one page.

My tick marks disappeared. Why?

Built ticks are saved in your web browser on that device. They are not shared between devices, and clearing your browser data removes them.

A tile is missing or broken. What do I do?

Fill in the missing tile request on our contact page and we will send a replacement.

Is there an app?

A TileWhirl app for phones and tablets is in the works. See the app page for what it will do.

How do I clean the tiles?

Wipe them with a damp cloth. Keep them away from heat: no dishwasher or hot water, as heat can warp 3D-printed plastic.

Are TileWhirl puzzles suitable for young children?

The tiles are small parts, so they are not suitable for children under 3. Always supervise young children with small pieces.

Can I get a puzzle with my own picture or logo?

Yes, on the square tray. See custom puzzles.
