About TileWhirl

TileWhirl makes tile puzzles: a tray, a box of colored tiles, and a library of patterns to build.

Every tray is 3D-printed, and so is every tile. There are four trays: square, triangle, star and hex. Each has its own shape, its own tile set and its own patterns.

We design the patterns ourselves, and they are all free on this site. Some are pictures, like a fox or a lighthouse. Others are geometric designs that use the shape of the tray: spirals, stars and patterns that look the same when you turn them.

The trays hide some real mathematics. The star tray can't be colored with two colors because five is an odd number. The hex tray can be filled about 22 quintillion different ways. Our challenges are where that comes out.
